M60, a giant elliptical galaxy, dominates the upper left of this Hubble Space Telescope image. It is one of the largest galaxies in the Virgo Cluster, about 54 million light-years away. The small, round smudge at the center is M60-UCD1, an ultra-compact dwarf galaxy that may be the densest known galaxy in the nearby universe.
