Mars and Orion over Monument Valley

NASA APOD · Wally Pacholka (Astropics, TWAN)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Mars and the constellation Orion stand over the iconic buttes of Monument Valley, USA. The two buttes on the left are known as the Mittens, with Merrick Butte on the right. In this 2007 image, Mars shines brightly in orange, while the familiar stars of Orion are visible above. The buttes are remnants of harder rock, left behind after softer surrounding rock eroded away.
