Comet Siding Spring Passes Mars
NASA APOD · SEN/Damian Peach
COSMIC MESSAGE
A comet passed very close to Mars yesterday, closer than any comet has ever passed to Earth in recorded history. Comet C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring) offered a unique opportunity to study the interaction of a comet and a planet. Humanity has five active spacecraft orbiting Mars, including NASA's MAVEN and ESA's Mars Express, which are sending back data from this encounter.
