Moonrise Through Mauna Kea's Shadow

COSMIC MESSAGE
How can the Moon rise through a mountain? What was photographed here is a moonrise through the shadow of a large volcano, Mauna Kea in Hawaii. The Sun has just set in the opposite direction, behind the camera. The Moon has just passed its full phase; if it were precisely full, it might rise, possibly eclipsed, at the very peak of the shadow.
