Star Forming Region S106
NASA APOD · Brandon Pimenta
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Sharpless 2-106 Nebula, or S106, is a bipolar star-forming region shaped like an hourglass or butterfly. At its center is the massive young star IRS 4, only about 100,000 years old. Material streaming out from this newborn star, along with a surrounding disk of dust and gas, sculpts the nebula into its distinct form.
