Structure in the Tail of Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks

Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks is getting brighter as it approaches its perihelion on April 21. Its greenish coma is visible through small telescopes. The faint, bluish ion tail, buffeted by the solar wind, shows detailed structures in long-exposure images. This periodic comet, a Halley-type, spans over two degrees across the sky in this view.
