COSMIC MESSAGE

Clouds of glowing hydrogen gas fill this skyscape in the faint constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn. This star-forming region, cataloged as NGC 2264, is about 2,700 light-years distant. It contains reddish emission nebulae excited by light from newborn stars and dark interstellar dust clouds.
