Mare Frigoris, or the Sea of Cold, lies in the far lunar north and is lighter than most mare. This close-up of the waxing gibbous Moon shows its north polar region. The 95-kilometer-wide crater Plato is visible just left of center. The sunlit peaks of the lunar Alps are highlighted below and right of Plato.
