Long Shadows of the Montes Caucasus

NASA APOD · When the Moon
COSMIC MESSAGE

When the Moon is at its first quarter, the Sun rises along the Montes Caucasus, casting long, spire-like shadows. This telescopic view from Earth looks along the lunar terminator, the boundary between lunar night and day. The Montes Caucasus peaks, up to 6 kilometers high, are located between the Mare Imbrium and Mare Serenitatis.
