Io: The Prometheus Plume
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Jupiter's volcanic moon Io displays two sulfurous eruptions in this Galileo image. On the left, a bluish plume rises about 86 miles above the surface from Pillan Patera. Near the night/day line, the ring-shaped Prometheus plume rises 45 miles, casting a shadow. Io is the most volcanically active body in the Solar System, constantly reshaping its surface.
