The Mars Global Surveyor is currently photographing Mars. The spacecraft arrived last September and is using aerobraking to maneuver into a better orbit. This image is a reconstruction of several photographs from the Mars Orbital Camera in wide-angle mode. It simulates a single vantage point 2700 kilometers above the Martian surface. Features like the Valles Marineris canyon are visible.
