COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet SOHO, discovered this month by an orbiting solar observatory, has emerged from the Sun's glare. This telephoto picture shows the new naked-eye comet after sunset in the western twilight above Lake Samsonvale, Australia. The comet is in the constellation Orion, with its long tail stretching nearly 5 degrees towards the bright star Bellatrix. For Southern Hemisphere observers, the comet is visible in the evening sky.
