A Giant Globular Cluster in M31

G1, also known as Mayall II, is the brightest globular cluster in the Local Group of galaxies. It orbits the center of M31, the largest nearby galaxy. G1 contains over 300,000 stars and is nearly as old as the universe itself. Observations show it is as old as the oldest globular clusters in our own Milky Way Galaxy.
