NGC 2683: Spiral Edge-On
NASA APOD · Adam Block
COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 2683 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Lynx, about 16 million light-years away. We see it nearly edge-on in this image, much like our own Milky Way. The bright galactic core is made up of light from a large number of old, yellowish stars. Dark dust lanes trace the winding spiral arms, which are dotted with the pink glow of ionized hydrogen, where new stars are forming.
