Jupiter and the Moon's Shadowed Horizon

NASA APOD · Jimmy Westlake (Colorado Mountain College)
COSMIC MESSAGE

On December 7, 2004, the Moon passed in front of Jupiter, an event called an occultation. This image captures Jupiter just off the Moon's shadowed horizon, before it was hidden from view. Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system, a gas giant with a diameter eleven times that of Earth. Its bright light makes it easy to spot, even next to a crescent moon.
