NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Sometimes both the Earth and the sky erupt. In Iceland in 1991, the volcano Hekla erupted while auroras were visible overhead. Hekla has erupted at least 20 times over the last thousand years. The green auroral band happened about 100 kilometers above the erupting lava.
