NGC 2623: Galaxy Merger from Hubble

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

When galaxies collide, stars form in new places. The Hubble Space Telescope imaged NGC 2623 in 2007 to study this process. This galaxy merger, also observed by Spitzer, XMM-Newton, and GALEX, shows two spiral galaxies that have merged. Their cores have combined into a single active galactic nucleus, and new star formation is evident.
