HUDF Infrared: Dawn of the Galaxies

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Camera 3 took this near-infrared image, the deepest ever, of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. The faint red smudges are likely galaxies that existed when the universe was only a few percent of its current age. This image helps astronomers understand when galaxies first formed.
