Vesta Near Opposition

NASA APOD · Jimmy Westlake
COSMIC MESSAGE

Asteroid 4 Vesta is one of the largest objects in the main asteroid belt, between Mars and Jupiter. It is shown here near opposition, when it is brightest in our sky. Even then, Vesta is too faint to see without a telescope. This image captures it sharing a binocular field of view with the bright star Gamma Leonis.
