Simeis 147: Supernova Remnant

COSMIC MESSAGE

Simeis 147, also called Sh2-240, is a supernova remnant, a shell of gas left over from an exploded star. It spans nearly three degrees in the sky, about 150 light-years across at its estimated distance of 3,000 light-years. The bright star Elnath, or Beta Tauri, is visible towards the boundary of the constellations Taurus and Auriga.
