The Herschel Space Observatory captured this infrared view of the Andromeda Galaxy, M31. At 2.5 million light-years distant, it is the closest large spiral galaxy to our own. This false-color image reveals cool dust lanes and clouds, which are dark in visible light. Andromeda is over twice the size of the Milky Way.
