COSMIC MESSAGE

Spiral galaxy NGC 891 is seen almost exactly edge-on, about 30 million light-years away in Andromeda. It closely resembles our Milky Way, with a flat, thin disk of stars and a central bulge. Filaments of dark dust extend hundreds of light-years above the galactic plane, giving it a distinctive appearance.
