Aurora: The Frog's View

NASA APOD · Mia Stalnacke
COSMIC MESSAGE

This frog's-eye view of an aurora was taken in Kiruna, Sweden. The photographer placed a phone on the ground, facing down, to get this perspective. Kiruna is north of the Arctic Circle, and often under the auroral oval surrounding Earth's geomagnetic north pole. Auroras are caused by solar wind interacting with Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere.
