COSMIC MESSAGE
The Andromeda Galaxy, M31, is the most distant object visible to the unaided eye, about 2.5 million light-years away. Without a telescope, it appears as a faint, nebulous cloud. This telescopic image reveals its bright yellow nucleus, dark dust lanes, and expansive blue spiral arms. Andromeda is over 200,000 light-years across and is on a collision course with our Milky Way galaxy.
