COSMIC MESSAGE

On December 11, astronomers detected one of the brightest and most distant explosions in the Universe: a gamma-ray burst. The RAPTOR (RAPid Telescopes for Optical Response) system captured the earliest visible light image of this burst. The inset images show the burst 65 seconds and 9 minutes after its high-energy radiation was identified as GRB 021211.
