Mount Etna has been erupting for hundreds of thousands of years. In late October of last year, earthquakes triggered a particularly vigorous outburst from this volcano on Sicily. This image, taken by astronauts on the International Space Station, shows the ash plume from Mt. Etna, looking southeast.
