Kemble's Cascade

NASA APOD · Walter MacDonald
COSMIC MESSAGE

This is Kemble's Cascade, a string of about twenty stars that appear to be in a row from our perspective. It stretches across five times the width of a full moon in the constellation Camelopardalis. These stars are not physically related; they just happen to align this way through our line of sight in the Milky Way. An amateur astronomer named Lucian Kemble first popularized this asterism.
