COSMIC MESSAGE

This aurora, captured from North Dakota, USA, appeared unexpectedly in August 2002. It showed an unusual structure of green rays stretching toward the horizon. A red band, also somewhat rare, mirrored the green rays. Lights from the cities of Bismarck and Mandan are visible below.
