A Hole in Mars

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Dark holes have been found on Mars, so deep that nothing inside can be seen. These could be entrances to underground caves, possibly offering protection for Martian life, if it exists. This specific hole was photographed by the HiRISE instrument on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, on the slopes of the volcano Arsia Mons.
