Comet Lovejoy with M44

NASA APOD · Damian Peach
COSMIC MESSAGE

Comet Lovejoy, discovered in September 2013, presented a greenish coma and tail in the pre-dawn sky. This telescopic view, captured on November 7, shows it near the M44 star cluster, also known as the Beehive Cluster. Lovejoy was not a sungrazing comet, but rather a visitor from the outer solar system. It became bright enough to be seen with the naked eye from very dark locations, offering a celestial spectacle.
