COSMIC MESSAGE
This New Year's Moonset over New York Harbor shows a waxing crescent Moon, about three days old and 10 percent illuminated. Its warm light shines through haze and thin clouds. Also visible in the hazy urban sky is Venus, blazing brightly over the western horizon. Like our Moon, Venus goes through phases as seen from Earth.
