A Patch of Spherules on Mars

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Opportunity rover on Mars captured this image of small, spherical objects, nicknamed 'blueberries,' on the Martian surface. These spherules, about 4 millimeters in diameter, are much grayer and harder than the surrounding rock. This image, taken near Stone Mountain, shows more than a dozen of these mysterious objects. Scientists are still debating their exact origin and formation process.
