COSMIC MESSAGE

The large, dusty spiral galaxy NGC 4945 is seen edge-on in this wide telescopic image, which spans almost 2 degrees in the constellation Centaurus. Located about 13 million light-years away, NGC 4945 is roughly the same size as our own Milky Way. Observations in X-ray and infrared light reveal significant high-energy emission and active star formation within its core.
